Emergency Snow Brigade 2011 - 2012
The Madison Park EMERGENCY SNOW BRIGADE is continuing in fall 2011 and winter 2012. Liz Brandzel is once again the coordinator for this year’s effort. If you are interested in learning more, you can contact Liz at (206) 249-9230 or email. So far, over 45 families have volunteered to be members of the Emergency Snow Brigade for Madison Park, Washington Park, Denny Blaine, and Broadmoor. Please join them!
The Snow Brigade was originally formed in the fall of 2010 and winter of 2011 to help neighbors in need should heavy snow falls prevent residents from getting important needs met. The organizers established a central phone number to be called to arrange for drivers to provide transportation to critical medical appointments, pick up prescriptions or shop for essential basic groceries for someone who is homebound. Walkers volunteered to walk dogs or shovel walkways or stairs.
Since then, several other neighborhoods have seen the posters, flyers and newspaper articles about this effort and contacted The Brigade to learn what the EMERGENCY SNOW BRIGADE was about, what they were offering, and talk over how they might implement similar programs in their neighborhoods.
